Where do I get dancewear?

We often get the question, "what do I wear for dance class?" Every age group and level at South Sound Dance has their own dress code and once you register you will be sent an email with specific class requirements. Below we have provided a few basics to get you started for a trial and a link to our online dance shop.

Get ready to dance!

What do I need to wear for a trial?

To try a class at South Sound Dance all you need is movement wear - leggings, a comfortable shirt, socks, and/or dance shoes. If your child is trying a class and has leotards or any gymnastics wear they can wear it to their trial. Once you register for a class we will send you dancewear specifics for your class!

Where do I get dancerwear?

South Sound Dance sells leotards, tights, dance wraps and other bodywear at the studio.  We require all dancers to be in branded dance wear sold at SSD.

While we do not carry shoes in stock at the studio, we can fit you or your child for dance shoes and help you order them online with delivery to your home!

Why Branded Dancewear?

At South Sound Dance, we believe that what our dancers wear is more than just attire—it’s part of building confidence, community, and pride. Branded leotards are now required for all SSD classes, and here’s why:

Team Culture & Pride – Wearing a branded leotard helps every dancer feel connected. It builds unity, a sense of belonging, and reminds them they are part of something special: the South Sound Dance family. Just like their team soccer jersey, or karate gi.

Elevating the Experience – A high-quality, well-fitting leotard allows dancers to move comfortably and focus on their dancing. Matching attire also makes choreography easier to clean and helps dancers understand how their bodies are moving — supporting faster growth and success in class.

Professionalism & Representation – Our dancers represent SSD both in the studio and in the community. Branded leotards reflect our shared commitment to excellence while helping each dancer feel polished and confident.

Branded leotards are available in our studio boutique.

How do I wear my hair?

For all classes, we require that dancers wear their hair pulled back and secured out of the face. This helps dancers stay focused and safe while moving.

Short hair: Style gelled back, pinned back, or half up/half down.

Longer hair: A ponytail, braids, or bun works best.

Ballet classes: A secure bun is required.

Keeping hair tidy not only prevents distraction, it also helps dancers dance with confidence and ease.

How do I make a bun?

Orca 2, Spark 1 and up level ballet dancers should have their in a secure bun! Watch this quick tutorial for help!
